Preface

Ceramics is the cultural jewels tempered by the fusion of clay and fire as well as the wisdom and crystallization of world civilizations. Ceramics runs through the magnificent chapters of the development and continuation of human civilization. “The Spirit of Ceramics” is the artistic core of international cultural exchanges and fusions.

In 2019, the State Council of China approved the establishment of the Jingdezhen National Ceramic Culture Inheritance and Innovation Pilot Zone, which fully reflects our country’s strategic vision and strategy to accelerate the development of ceramic culture. This is the foundation of the “Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale” jointly established by the People’s Government of Jingdezhen Municipality, Jingdezhen Ceramic University, China International Culture Group and International Academy of Ceramics (IAC).

Jingdezhen has been continuing the prosperous scene of “craftsmen come from all directions, and wares are exported across the world”. Porcelain is the city’s humanistic tradition and an indispensable part of the city’s daily life; Jingdezhen has always maintained a free flow of ceramic culture and spirit, laying the foundation for the city to accommodate diverse cultures of ceramic production areas at home and abroad. The Biennale aims to connect the Jingdezhen more closely with the rest of the world, build a new platform for international exchanges and cooperation with ceramic culture as the carrier, promote the humanistic sentiments and spiritual power generated by the interaction among human beings, clay and fire, and continue the experience and exploration of art and science. This responsibility and belief has never been stopped even though the Covid-19 is still raging in the world today.

Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale and Jingdezhen International Ceramics Fair will form a mutual support that features “One Core and Two Wings” , contributing to the construction of the Pilot Zone and creation of a new platform for international cultural exchanges and trade transactions. It will stimulate once again the driving force of the city and shape the Spring and Autumn Grand Fairs of Chinese ceramics.

Based on our recognition and pursuit of “friendship and communication, maintaining and representing the high level of contemporary ceramic culture and art”, the organizing committee of the Biennale is committed to establishing long lasting co-operations with domestic and international government departments, internationally renowned art institutions and universities. In the process of organizing international ceramic exhibitions with famous brands, high standard and credibility, establishing mutual understanding, trust, tolerance and sharing in cross-cultural and cross-regional dialogues, and jointly promoting the prosperity of world ceramic art creation, ceramic education, and ceramic industry, it is our objective to explore the genes of world culture contained in the “Spirit of Ceramics” and transmit and realize the common cultural values of humanity. It is also our goal to spread the voice of China, tell the Chinese story well, create the Jingdezhen International Ceramics Biennale with Chinese characteristics and styles, and contribute to the common cultural prosperity of humanity.
